Stamattina alle 10,30 nei giardini della nuova sede della Questura di Taranto in via Palatucci nel capoluogo ionico, “avrà luogo la cerimonia di piantumazione di un ulivo” (recita un comunicato della Questura) in memoria di Giovanni Palatucci. L’albero proviene “dal Giardino dei Giusti di Gerusalemme, donato dal KKL Keren Kayemeth Lelsrael Italia Onlus, associazione no profit fondata nel 1901 che si occupa dello sviluppo, della bonifica e del rimboschimento della Terra d’Israele”.
Giovanni Palatucci, nato nel 1909 a Montella (Av) e questore di Fiume dal 1937, riuscì a salvare circa cinquemila ebrei dalle leggi razziali e dalle deportazioni e non volle abbandonare Fiume neppure in presenza di una promozione a questore di Caserta. Nel 1943 Fiume passò sotto il controllo dei nazisti e Palatucci non la abbandonò comunque, continuando a salvare gli ebrei. Il 13 settembre 1944 venne arrestato dalle SS comandate, in zona, da Herbert Kappler. Fu deportato a Dachau dove morì, all’età di 36 anni, pochi giorni prima della Liberazione. Martire e vittima del nazifascismo, eroe autentico, è ricordato dagli ebrei nel Giardino dei Giusti di Gerusalemme.
Nel corso della cerimonia odierna “sarà consegnata una targa al Questore di Taranto, dott. Enzo Giuseppe Mangini, in onore di Giovanni Palatucci..
Parteciperanno all’evento, oltre ad autorità civili e militari, la Presidente del Soroptmist Club International Taranto, prof. ssa Vittoria Tomassetti Alessio, Attilio dell’Aglio, responsabile della Fondazione Giovanni Palatucci, il giornalista Tony Capuozzo e il Direttore Generale di KKL Italia Rafael Ovadia.
Nel pomeriggio alle ore 18,00, nella sala Resta del Centro Congressi della Cittadella delle Imprese di Taranto avrà luogo la conferenza del giornalista Tony Capuozzo, inviato al fronte per le reti Mediaset e autore per i titoli di Mondadori.
Sarà presente, tra gli altri, l’Assessore Regionale Silvia Godelli”.
